MPO press releases

22 April 2008

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY ETIENNE TERRE’BLANCHE,
MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE MILK PRODUCERS’ ORGANISATION

MPO warns against shelf life of imported long life milk
The Milk Producers’ Organisation (MPO) recently launched an urgent investigation into the motivation behind a sudden decrease in the prices of mostly imported long life UHT milk in the retail market.

Etienne Terre’Blanche, managing director of the MPO, said the result of the inquiry shows that the sell-by date of most of the discounted UHT milk cartons, will expire within a few weeks. Some of the products are sold for less than R6 a litre, while the current retail price for UHT milk ranges between R7 and R8 a litre.

Terre’Blanche has issued a warning to consumers to make sure that they check the clearly marked sell-by and use-by dates on UHT milk packs. Once a product reaches its sell-by date, it can result in a loss of quality and nutritional value.

For more information, contact Etienne Terre’Blanche on 012 843 5600 or 082 900 7676.
