MPO press releases

15 April 2008

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY ETIENNE TERRE’BLANCHE, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE MILK PRODUCERS’ ORGANISATION

Partnership forged between MPO and government
A breakthrough was made with regard to cooperation between government and industry organisations, following a recent successful meeting in Pretoria between the Milk Producers’ Organisation (MPO) and the national Department of Agriculture.

The Department and the MPO held high level talks during a joint workshop involving the two organisations. Areas within the dairy industry that have the potential to allow industry to reach a 15% growth target within the short term (three to five years), were discussed.

“We identified seven areas in which formal cooperation or partnerships between the MPO and the Department, can stimulate the required 15% growth,” says Etienne Terre’Blanche, managing director of the MPO.

The meeting appointed seven sub-committees for the seven areas, to draw up a project plan for discussion by the full committee by mid-June 2008.

The meeting was led by Vangile Titi, the Department vice-director-general of sectoral services and partnerships.
