PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY DÈAN KLEYNHANS, CHAIRMAN OF THE MILK PRODUCERS’ ORGANISATION IN THE WESTERN CAPE

Milk buyer murdered in the Western Cape
Dr Nazier Chitkay of Akhtbar Dairies was shot and killed at his dairy plant in Phillipi on Saturday, 24 November.

Dèan Kleynhans, chairman of the Milk Producers’ Organisation (MPO) in the Western Cape, said the murder came as a shock for the dairy industry in the area. He offered his and the MPO’s condolences to Chitkay’s family.

“The dairy industry has not been spared the impact that violent crime has on the country,” says Kleynhans.

The unexpected death of this milk buyer directly affects eight milk producers, 96 farm workers and their 384 dependents.

“Milk is a perishable product that needs to be processed daily and now the milk buyer is no longer there to process it,” says Kleynhans.

According to Kleynhans, Chitkay was a pioneer in the dairy industry, building a small family business into one of the leading dairy businesses in the Cape Metro.

Akhtbar Dairies is known for its quality dairy products and Chitkay was known for his sharp business mind and his good relationship with his milk producers.
