Growing price gap worries
The huge gap between the producer and retail price of milk has increased immensely since February 2007, says Etienne Terre’Blanche, managing director of the Milk Producers’ Organisation (MPO).

In February this year the price differed with R2,12 on average and by June this difference grew to R2,78 on average. This means that processors and retailers now rake in 66c more per liter than in February.

The milk price of well-known brandnames increased even more and the difference between the current price of R4,25 and the February price of R3,59 is staggering.
