Welcome to The Dairy Mail
Redakteursbrief - August 2010
If there is one thing any editor is extremely conscious of, it is the need to check and recheck facts. At The Dairy Mail this is exactly what we do. Yet, sometimes the facts change and new amendments are added to the act, which is what happened last month when we brought our readers a story on feeding. After checking the latest information again, we now have the most recent regulations regarding animal feed. Thank you to our faithful readers who brought this to our attention.
This month we focus on biosecurity and the need to have proper tracking devices for the dairy farmer’s most precious asset in place. The world is becoming increasingly conscious of knowing where dairy comes from. To address this, traceability is an excellent management tool to help farmers to stay abreast of the latest trends in biosecurity.
We also take a closer look at (local) greener pastures and how farmers can ensure they have the best grazing available. We investigate the no-tilling and how farmers locally and abroad have achieved success with this method.
Dealing with manure can be problematic. On page 61 we discuss ways to manage waste and convert it into a workable solution.
Another highlight is Amasi; we look at how this traditional product has evolved.
Have fun. And drink milk.
